SAUNA & LAKE DIP - read before you book

Research recommends the below time to be spent in the Sauna and Lake (alternating), this is a guide only and we advise that you should not push yourself or feel uncomfortable at any point. If you do, it is time to get out and let your body recover slowly.

SAUNA 10-11mins followed by 1-2mins LAKE DIP a gentle stroll back to the Sauna - allows your body to regulate before re-entering the heat.

You can repeat the above as many times as you wish during your allocated time slot.

During the Summer, when the lake temperature is above 15 degrees celcius, you may find you wish to dip for a little longer - but it is always important you remember it is to cool off, not to come out shivering.

We have a dedicated instagram feed for our lake temperature, which you can view here LAKETEMP

What is included:

  • Use of Sauna
  • Use of DIP AREA in our lake
  • Use of open air Cold Rinse Copper Shower
  • Use of outdoor seating areas
  • Toilets and changing cubicles

What you need to bring:

  • Swimsuit/trunks and a towel to sit on in the Sauna
  • Separate towel for cleaning/drying yourself after lake use
  • Flip flops/slip on shoes (to get to and from the lake)
  • Robe (optional)

You will be required to stay in an allocated area during your lake dip. Contrast therapy is better practiced using the guidelines above and so the usual lake swim route will not be an option on this session. We have a large area (to the right of the jetty) which is 1.2m depth and partially astroturfed underfoot where you can stand/crouch or gently swim around.

General Info

Refreshments can be purchased from reception during your time with us and enjoyed from our picnic benches on our patio or grass areas (cash preferred).

The 1 hour session includes time taken for changing. Please arrive 5-10mins prior to your session start time to allow signing in time at reception.

SAUNA ETIQUETTE

  • Please dry yourself as much as possible before entering the Sauna.
  • Please check your feet are clay free before entering the Sauna.
  • Leave your lake towel on the hanger outside.
  • Have a clean dry towel to sit on in the Sauna.
  • Please ensure you shut the door behind you (until it clicks) to minimise heat loss.
  • Check with other users before adding water to the stones - only a small amount is required and this will create more heat. Too much water will cool the temperature, so please only add a small amount at a time.
  • If you feel dizzy or too hot, please exit the sauna and have a moment outside to settle on one of our benches.
  • If you feel unwell please advise a team member or ask another Sauna goer to report on your behalf.

Our premises are bookings only, to manage numbers and ensure every trip is special for you.
If you would like to book our Sauna for a private group, please contact us to discuss options or take a look at our SIMPLY SPA booking options for the full Outdoor Spa experience.

Only refreshments purchased onsite may be consumed onsite (outdoor seating only)

Lake dips are strictly dips (you cannot swim the main route as part of this booking)

Sauna and Dip sessions will run alongside open water swimming sessions, so a lifeguard will be on duty at this time

Cautions & Contraindications
1. Heart Issues – Contraindication unless advised by Dr otherwise
Heart conditions such as, but not limited to unstable angina, recent heart surgery, or uncontrolled arrhythmias may not respond well to the physical stress of heat and are contraindicated unless advised other wise by a GP or health specialist before booking.

2. High or low blood pressure – Caution advised
People with high or low blood pressure that isn’t controlled are advised to use caution and take regular breaks as needed.

3. Implanted Devices – Check with Dr
Pacemakers, defibrillators, or surgical implants like metal pins may react differently in the sauna. Please discuss with your doctor or the company that made your device before considering using a sauna. They can give you advice specific to your device and health situation.

4. Active Infections/ Fever – Contraindication
The heat can do more harm than good with an active infection. It can raise your body temperature, worsening a fever and potentially helping the infection spread.

5. Kidney Disease – Check with Dr
Individuals with kidney disease need to approach sauna use with caution. The sauna’s heat can cause fluid imbalance or electrolyte loss, potentially complicating your condition. Always consult your doctor to understand how sauna heat might affect your kidneys and whether it’s a safe option for you.

6. Bleeding Disorders & Blood Thinners – Check with Dr
If you have a bleeding disorder or are taking blood thinners, the sauna’s heat, which increases blood flow, could be a concern. It might worsen bleeding issues or affect how your blood clots. Discuss sauna use with your doctor to understand the risks and to get advice tailored to your health needs.

8. Diuretics – Check with Dr
Using a sauna while on diuretics can make you dehydrated. The sauna’s heat, along with the effect of the diuretic, can drain your body’s fluids fast. Before you use a sauna, talk with your doctor about balancing your meds and hydration to keep your sauna sessions safe and fun.

9. Alcohol & Drugs – Contraindication
In addition to the existing health risks, heat can intensify the effects of alcohol and drugs. Use of drugs or alcohol is prohibited on site and anyone deemed intoxicated will be removed and banned.

10. Pregnancy – Contraindication
During pregnancy, it’s crucial to be cautious with sauna use. The heat can increase the risk of complications, stressing both the mother and the fetus. If you’re pregnant or planning to become pregnant, discuss sauna use with your healthcare provider to understand the potential risks and to receive personalised advice.

11. Colds, Flu’s, Fever – Contraindication
As our spa is a publicly used facility and a very enclosed and close environment, we ask that you do not book a spa session if you are ill or getting ill.

12. Dehydration / Sun Exposure – Contraindication
Going into a spa when you’re dehydrated or have been exposed to too much sun, can lead to heat stress or even heatstroke. Ensure you’re well-hydrated before, during, and after your sauna time. If you tend to get dehydrated, chat with your doctor about using the sauna safely and keeping your body hydrated.

13. Post-Surgery Recovery – Check with GP (usually between 3 weeks and 6 months depending on the surgery)
After surgery, your body needs time to heal. The heat from a sauna can affect this process. Always wait for your doctor’s clearance before using a sauna post-surgery. They can guide you on the right timing and how to reintroduce sauna use safely into your routine.

14. Cancer Concerns – Check with GP
If you have cancer or a history of it, sauna use requires careful consideration. Ongoing research suggests a need for caution. Always consult your doctor to discuss how sauna heat might interact with your condition and to receive guidance tailored to your health situation.

15. Respiratory Conditions - Caution
Conditions like asthma or bronchitis may worsen with heat and humidity of a spa. We are relying on you for your honest accountability to yourself and the wellbeing of others and hope that you will be enjoying a health informed sauna with us soon

The Venue

Crystal Lake View Therapies is based at the Ocean Walker Academy, tucked away down a country lane just off the A158 near Lincoln.
The purpose built 7 acre open water swimming lake and well kept lawn sits beautifully against a back drop of surrounding ancient Woodland.
Crystal Lake was designed for swimmers, with 3 main entry/exit points that are astroturfed for easy access.
The maximum depth is 2m, with varying depths from 1.2m - 1.8m throughout most of the lake.
Crystals were found during the lake dig, which we use as part of our Crystal Healing sessions - something quite unique to us!

There are 5 outdoor changing cubicles along with toilets and an outdoor rinse shower.
A 12 seater Gazebo is situated at the top of the lake with incredible views and perfect for a quiet moment.
Crystal Lake water is natural and water quality tested on a regular basis - which is always excellent. We do not add chemicals to Crystal Lake.
